Governor’s International Team to Host Western European Consular Summit
The Oklahoma Governor’s International Team is continuing its partnership efforts with the State of Oklahoma to broaden international trade relations by hosting nine foreign consular officers this week from nations including Austria, Germany, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and France.
The consuls general will arrive October 11 in Oklahoma City. During their stay, they will take part in a luncheon and briefing at the University of Oklahoma, a private reception at the Chesapeake Boathouse, a breakfast and business briefing presented by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce and hosted by Oklahoma State University, a tour of the State Capitol, and a luncheon hosted by Governor Henry with Lt. Gov. Jari Askins as featured speaker at the Phillips Pavilion on the grounds of the Governor’s Mansion.
During their stay, the consular officers will also meet with various members of the Governor’s International Team and prominent business executives to discuss available business opportunities with Oklahoma.
The popular consular summits have reflected a successful public/private partnership between the Governor’s International Team and the Oklahoma Secretary of State’s office. As the official Oklahoma Chief of International Protocol, Secretary of State M. Susan Savage is authorized to serve as the Governor’s official representative and is charged with coordinating and facilitating meetings between the Governor and international diplomats. Her office provides staff to ensure proper protocol procedures are implemented during official visits by foreign dignitaries.
“The Governor’s International Team is committed to assisting the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Oklahoma Legislature, and Oklahoma Department of Commerce with matters of international trade, economic development and education. This summit is one of our best ways of achieving that goal,” said Mark A. Stansberry, Chairman of the Governor’s International Team.
